Ships, aircraft, trains and vans - Southampton has produced them all!

Southampton people know a thing or two about transport manufacturing, but wheels and wings are a bit of a feature. From the Spitfire to the Ford Transit van, one industrial site in Swaythling has a rich history of making both. Now that the Ford factory has finally closed its doors bringing an end to 50 years of transit van production (and the demolition of a site that was once home to Cunliffe Owen Aircraft, Cierva Autogiro and Briggs Motor Parts), we thought it would be a good idea to pitch up in the neighbourhood and involve the community in exploring the site's intriguing story.

Our projects past and present

It’s not every day you get asked to make a ‘flash mob’ exploring the culture of philanthropy. We had great fun working with students from Solent University and Totton College creating a lively 8 minute piece exploring the stories of some of Britain’s greatest givers.

In the Spring and Summer of 2012, we worked with a group of visually impaired students at a Hampshire School, supporting them to set up and present their own radio station.
